2019 was the year of SochGreen’s growth as a brand that offered women an array of reusable period products; you name it, we have it! In fact, our first biggest announcement this new year is about a new product release!
Our SochUnderwear is our star product. A reusable period underwear with a leak-proof panel at the crotch, the outer layer is made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex, and the inner pad is made of polyester fabric. They are available in sizes XS to 3XL and can be used for a variety of purposes. Young girls can use it for white discharge as well as period bleeding. Women who have given birth can use it for postpartum bleeding as well as regular period bleeding and white discharge. Older women or those who have mild incontinence can also use it as a product for absorbing mild urine leaks. Depending on the flow, one can use our SochUnderwear as it is or along with an additional insert that can be clipped on to the SochUnderwear. They are available separately or along with inserts and the inserts can also be purchased separately. Each piece can be washed and reused up to 100 plus washes (or more) depending on how well you take care of them. And what more? They don’t create any garbage and are also super soft on your skin.
Our initial launch of the product included a mix of two colors - pink and purple. Over the months, the most popular and persistent request was for SochUnderwear in black color! Therefore, this new year, we decided that SochUnderwear in black would be our first offering! We are excited to be offering customized products that our customers are requesting from us! The second big news we have is the release of a statement about the safety of SochCup. We have always stood by the belief that our SochCup is one of the BEST cups available in the Indian market, primarily due to its superior quality of silicone. We also believe that it’s important to know the components of your menstrual cup before you start using one.
- SochCup (By Si-Bell) is manufactured by STERNE.
- Since 1996, the company STERNE is specialized in the design, development, and manufacturing of articles and sets made from silicone. The company has settled a quality management system according to ISO 9001 & ISO 13485, with protected production environments (4 clean rooms ISO 6, ISO 7 et ISO 8).
- SochCup is made in France with medical-grade silicone, USP class VI and ISO 10993; the silicone used in medical devices manufacturing, and perfectly biocompatible.
- In India, SochCup Menstrual Cup is SAFETY VERIFIED BY SMRF, kindly visit https://safetymonitor.org/review/soch-menstrual-cup/ for further details.
- Recently, regulatory changes were made by European Chemical Agency (ECHA) to D4, D5 and D6 silicone monomers present in the making of silicone polymers.
- ECHA has restricted the use of Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4); Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) and Dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) with following CAS No.: 556-67-2; 541-02-6; 540-97-6 respectively to less or equal to 0.1% from 31st January 2020.
In January 2020, our cups were re-tested by Safety Monitor Research Foundation and we confirm that our cups do not contain any Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) in an individual concentration of ≥ 0.1% by weight. It was found that there is no harmful material composition in SochCup that may have adverse effects on human and environmental health. We follow the best manufacturing process to minimize any impurities.
We have written several articles before about the safety verification of the SochCup. It’s an important and ethical move for us as the Indian menstrual cup market is flooded with China cheapie cups that are available for as less as INR 299. Big e-commerce sites like Amazon and Flipkart allow the sale of these Chinese cheapie cups. Selling on Amazon and Flipkart do not require product clearance or verification, especially in terms of their safety standards. Therefore, it is the need of the hour for us to emphasize the quality and safety of SochCup.
We often get asked why our SochCup is priced at INR 1295/- while there are menstrual cups available for as low as INR 299. The difference lies in product quality. For a period product that is reusable and saves you 5+ years of sanitary pads and tampons, imagine for it to be available at a cost of 2 packets of sanitary pads. How bad should the quality be for it to be priced so low? If the product is priced so low, how much do you think the workers are being paid to manufacture this product? Though mass production and technology may cut many costs involved, human labor is an absolutely essential part of any industry.
All we know is that these cheap products are shipped from China in bulk and rebranded in India under different names. The products are not tested; no one knows whether they are actually made of silicone. So, it is highly discouraged to use untested, unverified menstrual cups. Our major concern is also due to the fact that menstrual cups are an internal period product and they interact with fluids in the vagina; this is all the more reason for us to be aware of what all materials are present in our menstrual cups.
