Clean and Care Instructions for Your SochCup

Posted on by Bold Commerce Collaborator 0 comments

In our previous blog post, we spoke about how to use your SochCup for the very first time and all the tips and tricks that go with it. In this article, we talk about the clean and care instructions for your SochCup.

I just got my SochCup. Can I wear it directly?

Since it’s the very first time you are using SochCup, you are required to sterilize the SochCup to prevent any infections. If you have access to a kitchen, use the stove and boil a vessel with water. Once the water is boiling, add the SochCup in it for 5-6 minutes. Keep an eye out for the SochCup as you boil it. Make sure there is enough water and that the SochCup does not sink to the bottom of the vessel. If you do not have access to a kitchen, you can use a kettle and boil it in the same for 5-6 minutes.

Once the boiling is done, you can carefully take the cup out, wipe it with a piece of clean cloth and let it air dry for a day or two. Once it’s completely dry, you can store it in the pouch that the SochCup comes in. Please make sure that you do not use an airtight container. If you have lost the pouch in which the SochCup comes, keep it wrapped it in a clean, cotton handkerchief.

I am wearing my SochCup now. Do I have to sterilize it every single time that I take it out?

The best thing about using the SochCup is that you don’t have to sterilize it every time you take it out. When you take out the cup to dump its contents in the sink/commode, simply wash it with plain water and reinsert.

I finished using my SochCup for this cycle. Now what?

Congratulations on using your SochCup successfully. Now, you can rinse the cup thoroughly and air dry it. You can then keep it in your pouch. Coming to sterilization for your next menstrual cycle, you can do two things:

  • Sterilize it in advance at the end of the previous cycle.
  • Sterilize it a week before your next cycle begins.

Do I HAVE to sterilize my SochCup every single cycle?

There’s quite a bit of debate in the cup circles about this issue. Personally, I have not sterilized my cup in 2 years’ time. I simply wash it with geyser-hot water every month and make sure it’s clean and dry and I haven’t faced a single instance of infection. However, there are many women who would be uncomfortable with this idea. Therefore, the idea of constantly sterilizing your cup every cycle is something that is best chosen according to individual preferences. However, the first time you use a cup, it’s definitely necessary to sterilize it.

Can I wash my SochCup with Dettol or any other cleaning agents?

Absolutely not. Not only SochCup, but any product that goes near your vagina does not require to be washed by Dettol or any other cleaning agents. Plain water does the job best without disturbing the pH balance of your vagina.
